Just a short post for the SEO juice.
Was using Peter Dave Hello’s Tor Socks Proxy container in my homelab for a while and recently noticed the Tor binary inside the container was falling behind current releases. I checked out their repo and it appears there are a few open issues and PR’s for their container waiting to be addressed. Hey, I get it. We are all busy.
Since I had some tokens to burn I replicated Peter’s repo and had Claude give it a once over to modernize it, address relevant issues and incorporate any PR’s from the original repo to get to my desired end state for a replacement container.
What I wanted was an up-to-date, auto-refreshing container (weekly) that was a drop-in replacement to make migrating easy and that’s what I got. I also built ARM versions of the container for Apple Silicon or Raspberry Pi users.
My containers source can be found here: https://git.pickysysadmin.ca/eric/tor-socks-proxy
The container itself can be pulled here from Docker Hub: https://hub.docker.com/repository/docker/thefizi/tor-socks-proxy
Sample compose files and documentation are in the repo’s README but, at least in my homelab, it was a drop in replacement by changing peterdavehello/tor-socks-proxy:latest to thefizi/tor-socks-proxy:latest in my containers compose file.
